We then arrived at the Finland–Norway–Russia tripoint, which is monitored by two Norwegian border rangers. As throughout our journey, they were extremely polite, friendly, and informative, clearly explaining the border regulationsat this unique three-country point.

Of course, we were already aware that touching or crossing the Russian border, even with a fingertip, is strictly forbidden. What we learned here, however, was that non-Schengen residents are also not permitted to cross the Finland–Norway borderat this location. As a result, Barry and Mike were not allowed to step into Finland. The rest of us, who were permitted, kindly took photos using their equipmentso they could still document the moment.

Border Markings and Restrictions

Along the Finland–Russia border, there is a clearly visible barrier consisting of blue poles connected by an orange rope. Walking up to this line is allowed, but any part of the body crossing or overhanging the border is strictly prohibited.

While taking a photograph of the Russian text on the tripoint marker, I was gently warned that my elbow was close to crossing the borderline.

In hindsight, I joked that I could have used VAR-style line drawingto determine whether I was truly “offside.”

And now driving back to the hotel, again 2 hrs. It's 09:30 pm and it might be nice to have something to eat. No way that in the area somewhere, something is opened.

However dr. google said that the Esso gasstation is closed, we are that lucky that it still is open at 11:30 pm.

After ordening, we returned  back in the hotel @ 0:00 hrs.
