This page not only shows info and pictures of the exact tripoint of Austria, Czech Republic and Germany. It also shows pictures of the hike to the tripoint from the Knaus campground in Germany (hike of 4km. with 700 mtr. altitude). This hike follows the Austrian/German border.

At the tripoint we walked shortly along the Czechh/German border (1 bordermarker) and along the Czech/Austrian border (6 border markers).

Because the target was the tripoint, we weren't able to spot all border markers at the Austrian/German border from the beginning of our hike.

The hike (4 km.) started slowely, up mountain, through an amazing wood with the the border (the Gegenbach) mostly on our right hand.

After passing an 'Alp' the hike got (for us) highly extreme. For over 2 km. it was hiking up over a small 'path' with only rocks, mostly with an average >12%.

The tripoint marker

With stops to picturize border markers we saw, the hike up mountain costed us about 4 hrs. The walk down we used, after the first 900 mtrs. rockyroad, the path over Teufelschlüssel. It's a bit longer but a more comfortable walk.

Not to forget to mention that we also crossed the most Eastern borderpoint of the 'Freistaat Bayern'. Not only signed with a sign, also marked with a state border marker (nr. 6).

Bayerisch Staatswald Grenzstein 6 K.W.
K.W.=Königlicher Wald. Border marker of Royal Forrest and marked the borders of the State
owned after 1806 inside. Stones with this abbreviation can be found

still common today at the borders of the state forest. Since abolition of the 1919 monarchy, newly set stones are included at this point StW, "state forest", inscribed. The Bavarian State Forests manage create this since 1.7.2005.

Start from campground Knaus

After we spotted BM's 47 yesterday-
eve, we now walk in BM 46.

After only 70 mtr. we walked into BM's 46.1.

Iindicated 46.1 D for German side

and 46.1 Ö on Austrian side of the 'Gegenbach'

the brook, that actually is the border.

Almost on top, we spot the twin BM nr. 1.

Exact in the middle is the border.

We can't hardly see the brook 'Gegenbach' in between.

From the twin 1, we see BM H2.

It's the first BM between Germany

and Austria, visioned from the tripoint.

I couldn't figure out, why it is marked as H2.

At the railwaystation of Bayerisch Eisenstein, we walked untill BM 3/6.

Walking to the South, we first find

BM 1-0-1 on the border of Austria and Czech.

Only 100 mtr. walking it's

BM 1-0-2, standing to mark the border.

And again 100 mtr. further

it's BM 1-0-3

A larger BM is standing here. On my map
there's no number

and I can't read it clear on the BM itself.

It's situated just in the curve of the border.

Remarkable is this BM.

I think it's nr. is 1-1-1, so previous should be 1-1-0.

Watch the upstanding stone in front of the 'tumb'.

It has a border X in it as well.

Next BM is nr. 1-1-2.

Last one we visit is this big rock

as BM 1-1-3.

From here we went backwards.

Situated at a quiet and pitoresque spot

is the actual border.
